My Big Night Out…

Yesterday, Tuesday, was spent in training until 6pm. I have today and tomorrow off so it makes sense I went into the office today. It’s pretty smoggy out so what’s the point of sightseeing when it’s difficult to see anything, anyway.

The guy standing to my right in the second photo is Terry. He’s from Scotland and is one of the most interesting guy’s I’ve met. He has a Chinese girlfriend (he speaks passable Chinese) and I joined them and another Chinese couple for dinner last night at a restaurant. We drove there and as is becoming a ritual with me, I had to close my eyes at times because I didn’t want to see the horrible accident we were about to befall. One of these days…

It was a gynormous eatery and the menu was so large I felt compelled to count exactly how many pages it contained, which was 43. Mound after mound of food arrived, obviously including Peking duck, which no one can explain, why this eponymous dish isn’t now called Beijing duck. Despite the fact I was told the food here is completely different than back home, so far, I haven’t found that to be the case. I would opine that Chinese food in SF is so authentic that at least as far as standard food items go, it really isn’t a whole lot different. It was a real pig-out evening such that I haven’t had anything to eat today and it’s almost 4pm. I promise to take photos the next time I dine like that. So, what was the bill for all of this fare? 270 RMB ($40), such a deal! Oh yes, if you are invited out, there is absolutely no way you can pay for anything. You can offer, but that’s as far as it goes.
